I am the light of the world

I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.  Matt 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lamp stand and it gives light to all who are in the house.  16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”  NASU

This scripture and the previous one (salt of the earth) are best understood in the overall context with verses 15, 16. Let’s first think about some things light makes possible in the natural. It helps us to see what is there, thus preventing us from stumbling over things and hurting ourselves or others.

Ps 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. NASU

Ps 119:130 The unfolding of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. NASU

In a spiritual understanding of light, when we operate in the light of God Word, we begin to have comprehension of Gods principles and how to operate in them. So we know what to do, when to do it, and how we should do it. As we walk in HIS light, that light will shine before men through our good works, and Our Father will be glorified. One of the big principles for us to operate in is first, honor God in worshipping HIM with our tithes, and offering. This is the beginning of understanding that giving is a primary principle in Gods Kingdom and
a key part of Gods character, John 3:16. For us giving, relates to every situation we may operate in, be the first to give …. Give respect, grace, love, kindness, honesty, mercy, our goods, money, etc….. Do unto others first….

Acts 20:35 Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” NASU

Say “I love you” everyday

Try to find something positive about your spouse, instead of harping on bad traits. Say “I love you” everyday. What’s the first thing people say when they lose a loved one? “I wish I could have told him that I loved him one last time.” Make sure you let your spouse know you love and care about him/her.
